Steve Bailey’s research focuses on the social implications of information and communication technology, particularly in terms of the construction of identity and the development of forms of self-consciousness in a media-saturated environment. He is currently working on developing theoretical approaches combining elements of sociology, communication theory, philosophy, and social psychology to help investigate these issues, as well as examining the actual interpretive and creative practices of individuals within a media culture. He has published essays in Popular Music and Society, Velvet Light Trap, and Communication Review, as well as a chapter in a recent British Film Institute anthology on film genre, and has presented scholarly papers at numerous international conferences.
